Functioning clock and compass in recipe book
The bug
The recipe book displays a functioning clock and compass in its content and latter one as a navigation tab icon. This especially makes crafting a compass for finding your spawn point obsolete, which is most likely not intended. It would be better if both clock and compass could display a static dial like they do in the statistics menu.

Compass in recibe book
Compass (and clock) should not be icon in recipe book tab. This is cheating for people playing on survival, becase they don't need to crafting real compass anymore. Instead, they can just open recipe book (which is always available).
Since compass is available in recipe book, crafting real one is pointless.Environment

Same as MC-116293, but for Bedrock
The recipe book displays a functioning clock and compass. That way, players can see what time is it or in which direction the spawn is without actually crafting a clock or compass.
Steps to reproduce:
- Start some world in survival
- Open inventory
- Turn off the Craftable toggle
- Search "clock" or "compass"
What happens: The clock or compass in recipe book normally works
Suggested behavior: The game would show a static version of the item e.g. clock would always show the noon
Thanks for the report; however this is a duplicate of MC-116293.
Please only report one bug per ticket, and search before posting. Some quick searches revealed tickets for almost every issue mentioned in the video, and some of these are already resolved.

Compass works like normal in villager trading GUI. Relates to MC-116293
This is a duplicate of MC-8550. Fortunately, the recent fix of MC-116293 means that players can no longer use compasses/clocks without having the materials for them, but according to Marcono1234's comment here, it would be extremely difficult to also prevent players from viewing clocks/compasses in the crafting table output slot (without actually crafting them).
Aidan Gamerdude This is pretty much an edge case between bug and feature (removal) suggestion. I only reported it because MC-116293 was considered valid and fixed.
The bug
Although similar bugs with Compasses and Clocks such as MC-116293 and MC-182888 have been fixed, both items still work in the Crafting Table output slot.
How to reproduce
Open the Crafting Table, and then either use a Recipe Book to or manually create either a Compass or a Clock.

The Compass or Clock still works in the output slot.
When using an item model that changes based off the context_entity_type property checking for a player, the result is very inconsistent between various GUIs and screens in the game that render or hold items. Below is a table documenting the different screens/GUIs, whether or not items within them consider the player as the context entity, whether or not this seems intended or correct, and any additional notes on the behavior.
| Screen/GUI | Considered as held by a player? |
Likely to be correct? | Additional notes |

1 - Entirely depends on if items placed in GUI slots still considering the player as their context entity is intended behavior.
2 - Depends on if storage/container slots are intended to be treated differently from slots in GUIs that don't hold items when closed, unlike the ones covered by note 1.
Attached are screenshots of the cases listed in the chart. The item model being an apple means that it is considered as player context, and the item model being a potato means that it is not. The resource pack used to test this is also attached - various random items were used to test the different cases, so refer to the files at assets/minecraft/items to see which are changed.
Would be interesting to know why this was closed as "invalid". This is not a feature suggestion. With the compass tab icon in the recipe book always being visible, even in survival, crafting a real compass is pretty much a waste of resources. I doubt this is the intended behaviour. Even though it's not a technical bug, it's definitely a gameplay-related issue that needs to be fixed.
Or clock and compass items (as icon and in the recipe book / recipe preview) should be rendered like they are in the statistics.
Yes, rendering them static like in the statistics menu instead of displaying the animated item for tabs and previews sounds like the best solution. Thanks for reopening and changing the title.
Affects 18w08b
With this bug, compass are only need to craft maps and buying explorer maps.
Deleted obsolete comments, shortened and cleaned up the description to (hopefully) sound a little more like proper english. The description now also mentions the proposal to display a static dial for the clock and compass to fix this issue.

You can still see a functioning clock/compass when trying to craft a clock/compass. Is that intended?
Very likely not. I've created a new report for it:
