Villages and witch huts sometimes don't generate properly
I created some super flat worlds and most of the time I found the villages in these conditions. Attention! Sometimes not all the villages have this bug.
The bug has been working from the snapshot 13w19a. Follow those steps to reproduce it:
- Create a world and join
- As soon as you see a village, leave the game.
- Quickly re-join the same world and the bug should work.

The bug has come back always in the snapshot 13w19a. here's how it happened.
1) I created the world

I think it was an occasional bug, hopefully not happen again more

I was able to reproduce the issue by reloading the world during terrain generation. So please vote for MC-15820 since it has different reproduction steps.
This ticket has been marked as a duplicate of MC-15820, in favor of the better description/information provided.

This is not a duplicate of MC-15820
When you create a world it will be like this
Can not confirm
However, it might be MC-15820
It is MC-15820. Thanks!
These spots were supposed to be trees, but they didn't generate properly. In that case, it might be MC-15820
The Zombie could've come out of the roofed forest as it's possible to be dark enought to allow spawning other thick layer of leaves.

Still a duplicate of MC-15820.
Tried 5 times to recreate your issue, got always the the wall with more coal blocks.
Always waited after initial spawning until the number of chunk updates was going against zero before TP'ing to the specified coordinates.
Oh, allright then, but shouldn't we at least update issue MC-15820? Because I am not getting stripes, even if the cause is the same. I think it changed from stripe generating to this, making this issue more actual than the other.
But I'll leave that decision to you.
Firstly I should say I have opened this bug before a few days and years ago. With all due respect, I'm requesting moderator Kumasasa to leave this one to another mod, because I'd like a second opinion. Contrary to what was thought before:
- Even when standing around for ten minutes to wait till there are 0 chunk updates AND when standing still every 100 blocks, the world still generates differently at times. So it's not a duplicate of
MC-15820
-It is also not a duplicate of MC-15820 because the world does not generate in stripes at all. That bug was probably fixed long ago. This is a different issue, I swear.
But because there was much confusion on how to replicate the bug, it was eventually closed by the mods. Now I have a quick way to replicate it which is described at the end. I'm 100% positive this is a (minor) bug, so my request is to take it seriously!
A seed is supposed to generate exact the same world on all PC's. But some world chunks seem to have more versions. So most of the world is the same, but in 50% of all instances the seed is used to generate a new world, the seed is different. This is visible in the 2 screenshots I uploaded. There are two versions of this wall: one with coal in it, one with far less coal in it.
I discovered it this way: I was playing along with an LPer with the seed "PythonGB LP World". The world was the same, but upon seeing this wall, he had the version with many coal in it, I had just one coal spot. When playing along further, there were more instances (differently placed trees, pools, landscaping). This is kind of frustrating because when an LPer discoveres for instance a diamond chunk, it may not be there in my world. This happens with every seed. So every seed has some differently generated chunks.
How to replicate this:
1. Make a world (use the seed "PythonGB LP world" or "1862394111" for verification)
2. Go to the coördinates specified on the screen (make sure the world is loaded properly first just to make sure)
3. Observe the wall
4. Recreate the world, like ten times
5. Around 50% of the time, the wall looks different. This affects some other chunks as well and affects every seed.
Mr. Kumasasa tried this 5 times and every time he got one version. This is why I'm requesting a second opinion. I tried this at two PC's, both fast enough to run the game. If a second mod also cannot replicate this or says it's some duplicate, then I will give up on this.
This will work with every world and every seed, but you'll need to find a place that is "sensitive" to it. Some chunks always generate the same, like they're supposed to.
I didn't quit and reload during playing,
50% of the time (may be more or less, it's based on chance), the wall will be different. So a seed seems to have at least two versions of some chunks.
The terrain generation itself isn't cut off, only the trees are cut off. That's why I think this is a dupe of MC-15820.
This issue may be duplicates MC-15820
This issue duplicates MC-15820.
Pretty sure this is MC-15820
It's not MC-15820, the cause is different.
Here's another reproduction case that proves it's a different issue:
- Create a world.
- Go find some end cities.
- Go back to the Overworld.
- Close the world.
- Delete the DIM1 folder from the save, to reset the end. Do not delete EndCity.dat.
- Go back to the End and see that none of the cities you previously found generate.
- Close the world.
- Delete the DIM1 folder from the save, to reset the end, and also delete EndCity.dat this time.
- Go back to the End and see that the cities you previously found generate again.
MC-15820 seems to be about (in MCP terms) the whole IChunkGenerator.populate() method not being called correctly. In this bug, populate() being called but MapGenEndCity.generateStructure() is deciding not to do its thing, because when the city data is loaded from EndCity.dat the MapGenEndCity.Start.isSizeable field isn't restored properly.
If I mod MapGenEndCity.Start to set this.isSizeable = true when loading the city data from EndCity.dat, I can no longer reproduce the bug with either method.
I still confirm this NOT duplicate of MC-15820 because with villages it DOESN'T always happen, and with end cities it ALWAYS happens. I LOOKED at the screenshots, End cities aren't stacking up like the buildings in the villages, and i noticed that only the rendered chunks will spawn end city pieces, the village bug is different because the chunk bugging is more random. I generously gave screenshots to people with bad imaginations. SIMPLE PROOF: try telling the difference between the chunk generation screenshots on this bug and MC-15820 and double check the difference between them, if you cant see any difference (other than the village and end city being different generated structures) keep in note that the village probably glitches out the unseen chunks, while the end city totally deletes unseen chunks and doesn't stack buildings on top of each other. if you cant tell the difference then you probably have a tumor!
IM SERIOUS!!!
I am deeply sorry about that, I was pretty grumpy when this ticket was resolved as a duplicate and i promise i wont act grumpy on the internet again. (but i still don't think this is a duplicate of MC-15820) Could you please specifically tell me why this is resolved as "Duplicate"?
Because both villages and end cities are structures, there are more structures with this kind of issues, and seperate tickets for what is essencially the same problem is not useful.
One thing about your screenshots, The parts missing also occures with villages like shown in MC-15820.
Thanks, I don't think I need to give out any more info about this ticket, I pretty much typed all the info I could possibly type, and i am glad the bug is now related to MC-15820 rather than duplicate, it just seemed as wrong as "pigs eating bacon" in many ways. I was also furious when this happened but i decided to be forgiving. I now understand why it seemed to be a duplicate. i got all the screenshots within 30 minutes, i reproduced the bug on every screenshot proving it almost always works.

I'm sure there are other worlds in these conditions in fact I'm looking for more.
Tried the seeds, neither worked. Are you sure you are playing vanilla Minecraft?
I'm playing Minecraft snapshot13w19a. Are you sure you are playing 13w19a?
I recreated the worlds mentioned in the description by placing the seed but the villages were normal. I decided to create other worlds without seed, and the bug has come back. I don't know what to say
Unable to reproduce either. Created both worlds in 13w19a, both look normal, see screenshots.
I'm doing a video that will make you understand how to reproduce the bug.

This bug also affects other structures that are generated by the game
Confirmed by following the steps using the Seed #1.
Following the steps I was able to reproduce the occasional reports of
MC-5737still not beeing fixed. But these should be kept separated since they are reproduced differently.I was able to reproduce the bug of the world that is generated in stripped parts. See screenshots
This may not be relevant, but confirmed for versions dating as far back as 1.3.2 - I've had the bug in the past, but figured it was just a one-time quirk. Yes, I re-loaded the world as I was flying around (inevitably generating chunks just as I reloaded), and the glitch was permanent (whereas
MC-5737is apparently client-side with unglitched server-side terrain?).I even observed the chunks back then, curious as to why they hadn't populated - in MCedit, they were not marked for population, indicating that the game unmarked them without actually populating them. I've never heard of half-populated chunks, but the screenshots seem to contain doubly-populated chunks - it seems "unmark chunk for population" and "populate chunk" aren't atomic actions with regards to saving chunks, but "populate chunk" on its own is atomic with regards to chunk saving? I find it odd that both "accidentally leave unpopulated" and "accidentally populate twice" are possible, although that may not quite be what's happening in the screenshots.
The game generate the village twice.
Is this still a concern in the current Minecraft version? If so, please update the affected versions in order to best aid Mojang ensuring bugs are still valid in the latest releases/pre-releases.

This bug also works in version 1.6
This bug still exists as of 14w02c, I have a screenshot of a very long strip of missing generation in the middle of a forest, can provide it if needed.
I was unable to reproduce the bug of the villages in 1.7.9. I came back in 1.6.4 version and it still works. This bug was fixed in 1.7 i think, because it is the first release where the bug doesn't works, after the 1.6.4
This bug still works. Some chunks get generated differently (are corrupted) when strolling to a place when chunks are still busy loading. I am not getting stripes, but I do get some chunks not appearing as they are supposed to. For example iof I let a world load perfectly a certain mountain may have a bunch of coal in it, but when I stroll to the location before the chunk is generated perfectly, the mountain wall looks different, with far less coal, flowers placed in another way and ponds that are different.
Seen this recently in 1.7.9 as we prepared our unpopulated chunks ready for the 1.8 update. Willing to share the map data if it’ll help devs look into this.
Confirmed for 1.8
Can confirm for 1.8.1
Cant really reproduce because I ran into a new area then quit then logged on later and saw this bug.
If you saw the bug, then what do you mean "Can't really reproduce"?
Good point
Confirmed for 1.8.3

Confirmed for:

Don't bother, the situation in
MC-96998does not have the same cause as this bug.Changing this to generated structures only and
MC-84800to chunk population (trees, snow, etc.).Torches sometimes stay in midair, or hang where they shouldn't
This is from 1.11, half of the end ship (with all the good stuff) didn't generate
End cities/Woodland mansions is
MC-96998this sometimes happens, its just a world generation glitch.
Seems to be fixed in 1.13.1, tried it by five different villages.
Please check if that's still an issue in the latest 1.14 development snapshot.
