Hi - I don't see how a Mac issue where a dialog pops up stopping offline play is the same as a this is a duplicate of a Windows issue where the launcher crashes. Also the error in MCL-5546 is not being able to save the file, whereas this error is that when offline it tries to download a file which will obviously fail!

Seems like MCL-5546.
Complaining does not help you at all. We cannot do anything but leave this report open and wait for a Mojang employee to look into it (helpers and mods aren't employees, we're volunteers). However, you could check whether it's a problem with your setup. I know that the problem started when the new launcher was released, but it won't do any harm.
Also, this is not a support forum. If you need further help, please contact the Mojang Support team.
Charlotte Ann Hill, that's a completely unrelated issue. Please go here: MCL-5546.

Please note this is unlikely to be related to MCL-5546, since ByteFence is a Windows-only application, and in this case the Firewall was turned off and the System Preferences were set to "Allow apps downloaded from: Anywhere". Could this possibly be an Akamai caching issue?

I don't think this is a duplicate of MCL-5546. That issue relates to Windows and refers to software (ByteFence) that is only available for Windows. This issue was experienced on a Mac.

Why is this a duplicate of MCL-5546?
Anyway, Minecraft normally uses its own version of Java. If you want to use another Java install, you have to specify the path to the Java executeable of the Java version you wish to use in the launch options (select the profile you're using, enable "Java executeable" and change the path).

So, I haven't touched Minecraft on my laptop in almost a year after some graphical issues I was having. Figured I'd try again. So, I wiped EVERYTHING Minecraft from my laptops system. Everything was going smoothly, until I got to the new MCL(it's a LOT different from what it was with 1.10, but whatever.) Clicked the play button, started downloading...and about fifteen or twenty seconds in I get this:
Failed to download file. hit3.ogg
Name: hit3.ogg
URL: http://resources.download.minecraft.net/ad/ad126e435cca94054bf0d616301799a105526cde
Error details: HTTP 499: Request has been forbidden by antivirus
Filename on disk: bbca-a2e7-de0e-cdf2
Path: C:\Users\flesi\AppData\Local\Temp\bbca-a2e7-de0e-cdf2
Exists: file
Now, I noticed the antivirus thing. So, I did what anyone would normally do, and turned off Kaspersky's antivirus protection. Still nothing. I even referred to the MCL-5546 issue link and followed all of the instructions for Windows 10. I don't have ByteFence on my system...at all. Even doing a file search of the whole OS yields nothing. So, I'm at a loss at what to do, and clearly this issue is similar to 5546, but it's not quite the same.

I think this is MCL-5546.
Someone help! I bought this game 4 days ago and immediately I am unable to download this file. I am using a MAC, so I don't think the solution pointed to by MCL-5546 is relevant. I don't have any anti-virus software (that I am aware of), I have the firewall turned off, and I have "Allow apps downloaded from: Anywhere" selected. I also tried the old installer using legacy java runtime and that also fails. I sent a trouble ticket the night I bought the game, and have yet to hear back from anyone.

I have this issue, but it is not caused by Bytefence (as it is not installed on my computer). Does anyone know how to fix this then? If you do, can you please inform me how to fix this.

Hello friends. Ever since the new launcher came out to 1.11 / 1.12, I have not been able to play
I own a server with a friend, but I never get the chance to play. When I click on * Play * it says: Failed to download file. ast_es.lang. My language is set to English so why is this a problem with a Spanish language file?? I have tried to get help without success, what should I do? // Gustav (ING) Gustavsson_05
For Mac users,
I found a solution please help other people with this.
First you go here http://hopper.minecraft.net/help/guides/minecraft-logs/ to get your minecraft logs
It will show you the item that is missing in the folder. For example mine might be 62.
You go back to the minecraft launcher, and click show more details
Copy and paste the url in a browser , it will download a file.
Go to minecraft objects and put the file in 62, yours might not be
keep on doing this until you can log in
I still have this problem, but I don't have anything related to ByteFence installed.
Bytefence has been uninstalled and I am still having the issue with cannot establish a directory. I tried reinstalling the game after uninstalling bytefence and that did not work. What can I do to fix this?

Really! You want us to uninstall Anit-Malware so just the new launcher will work!!
Back to the old launcher and all works fine, I can log in to my worlds and play
You tube video on how to get old launcher back - <link removed by mod>
Its not antimalware, its malware disguising as one
Anti-malware programs tend to block programs from downloading files. It's entirely reasonable to request disabling one when it's blocking downloading a regular file.
Also, that is not a valid location to get the old launcher. If you want it, you can get it from https://minecraft.net/en-us/download/alternative. If you're downloading random programs off of mediafire, that is a good way to get malware.
I need you to advise me so I can speak Spanish and I can not log in to minecraft.net and I need help

Is there also an fix for Mac OS
The annoying part about this is I got ByteFence via this crappy installation website that kept giving me like 12 different installations that weren't necessary, and I never installed any of them. It just installed itself because I opened the page.
Ok. After a week of trying to fix this I have been unable too. I don't have ByteFence and never have had it. I am getting this error on the new launcher and I can't play minecraft at all. I downloaded the old launcher and can play minecraft but no mods. I'm trying to play ftb beyond and skyfactory 3. I have also tried the ftb launcher and couldn't played. I would post error log but I have about 10 different ones from those 3 launchers and many many more with the new launcher. I can give you this tho.

Hi i am also on a mac trying to play, I'm having the same problem i press play and it comes up with the "ru_ru.lang" file. is there any solution for this as it has been a few months now??? why haven't mojang/ minecraft done anything about it?
MY SOLUTION === MY SOLUTION === MY SOLUTION ===
So I did not have ByteFence Software installed and no Anti-Malware and whatnot and still got the same problem when Downloading v1.12. So what I did is JUST HIT THE DOWNLOAD BUTTON again and again. This is obviously totally unreasonable but it worked. For some language-packs I had to repeat it 5-10 times but finally I got them all downloaded and can play v1.12 now. Hope it works for you too.
I cant login on my account to 1.12.1 but can on versions earlier to 1.12 what do I do?

Thanks bro that worked lol

I'd prefer to get a response to this. Ok so when I did what the yellow box said, I was unable to find the Byte-fence or whatever, so that did not change anything. I tried doing everything else I could, but nothing worked yet. This is the message.
