Created Issue:
Guardians render outside of their hitboxes when they look up or down
Guardians and Elder Guardians do not render centered on their hitbox when pitch is non-zero.
If the pitch is below/above about -40/40 guardians render almost completely outside of their hitbox. Pitches close to 90 or -90 will result in a guardian being outside of its hitbox entirely.
I attached an image (guardian_hitbox.png) with a guardian and elder guardian at pitch -75 and 75 for demonstration. You can reproduce this easily with the following command.
/summon elder_guardian ~ ~ ~ {NoAI:true,Rotation:[0f,75f]}

Remaining issues for hit boxes and eye positions will be split up into their own reports.
If such an issue is a problem for you and doesn't have an own report yet, feel free to create it!
Avoid grouping several similar issues as this report did.
For example if the hit box of zombies and the hit box of wolfs has an issue, that is two reports, one for zombies and one for wolfs.
This report has been split to make it easier to update the reports and hopefully also easier for the devs to fix them.
- MC-143184: Eye level and visible eye position mismatch
MC-142768: Suffocation caused by eye-level outside of collision box- Reports specific to certain entities or situations, e.g.
MC-117619, MC-119372, ...
This report is still about bad hitboxes.
The hitboxes and eye position of a few mobs/entities are in a wrong place.
All fine here.
Seems wrong, but with explanation and expectation to stay like this.
Unsure if issue or intended.
Minor issue.
Bigger difference
Special issue that may need to be moved into an own report

| Baby Pigman, Baby Zombie/Drowned, Baby Villager | I assume all these have the same height intentionally. Their average rendering height is quite a bit higher than the current hitbox. Especially Pigman rendering goes higher quite a bit. | |||

| Pigman, Zombie, Villager, Witch, Skeleton | Seems a little bit too small, but making them higher would make them not fit in 2 high spaces, therefore probably intended. (Not confirmed by devs) | |||
| Cave spider | Seems too small, but making them higher would make them not fit in 1/2 high spaces, therefore probably intended. (Not confirmed by devs) | |||

| Too small when not sneaking, too high when sneaking (likely part wise caused by MC-48191 and therefore intended). Eye position does not change when sneaking | ||||
| The facing is inverted too all other mobs. Height and Width is the AABB around all parts so it looks too huge, while it actually is probably fine |

most mobs are spawned in a row with NoAI. It can be really useful for testing.
I recommend using F3 + B and /gamemode spectator. Also it's good to turn particles to minimum to better see mobs like blazes.

@Kevin Posey it might be good to create a seperate issue for that since the bug is rather that the guardian is rendered at the wrong position.
Edit: He created MC-119372.

Can confirm. Relates to MC-119372.
Would it be okay to request a review of this ticket since similar reports regarding how entity hitboxes don't correctly correspond with their models are considered issues? (MC-142848, MC-195133, MC-212565, MC-208015, MC-198242, MC-148559, MC-119372, MC-80877, etc...) It does seem rather strange that the wither's shoulder heads aren't included within their hitboxes and since similar behavior with other entities is considered to be valid problems, maybe this should be reconsidered? ![]()
does MC-119372 describe your issue? if no, could you give me a video for this issue?

i think, this is like an animation for an attack, like a iron golem trows up his arms. But when in this animation, the hitbox doesnt change.
They must remove the animation, the change of hitbox because of the animation would be much more difficult i think.
Can confirm for MC 1.12.1.

I've identified the cause of this.
All entity models are created 1.5 blocks below where they should render, and then moved up by a little over 1.5 blocks in the rendering process. I don't know why it's done this way but it is. The issue is, the guardian model does not set a pivot/rotation point, and it defaults to [0, 0, 0] (relative to the entity position) which is above where the model is. When the model is rendered, everything is shifted up 1.5 blocks, putting the model in the correct place, but the pivot point is now at [0, 1.5, 0] which is way too high.
The correct location for the pivot, in my opinion, would be at 0.5 blocks above the bottom of the guardian, or 1.0 blocks below the default pivot.
In MCP 1.12.2 naming the code solution would be, in the constructor of net.minecraft.client.model.ModelGuardian, the following line needs to be added:
this.guardianBody.setRotationPoint(0.0F, 1.0F, 0.0F);(entities are modelled upside-down so using a positive value here shifts the pivot point downwards from its default)
