Player hitbox incorrect after hitting a wall with an elytra
You will be able to go through blocks above you after hitting a wall while flying with the elytra.
Steps to replicate
- Equip elytra
- Fly into a block, preferably a wall you built that should be easy to fly into, but a tree also works (do this in survival)
- You are no longer flying after hitting that wall (make sure to not glide again)
- Walk into a space with a roof 2 blocks off the ground
- Jump
- You can go into the block above you
- From here you can test it further by going into one block gaps and other places. It is very easy to suffocate by jumping when inside 1 block gaps, but you will probably suffocate just from walking into them.
Ways to reset yourself after going into this mode
- Reload the world, your hitbox will be normal
- Use the elytra again and not hit a wall. This is probably the easiest and simplest way
- There might be a way by doing something while swimming, but I am not sure
After further testing
There is a way to fix it while swimming, but it is not because you are swimming that it fixes itself. You can "glide" while swimming, which activates the same fix as if you would on land. It has the same effect that fixes your hitbox, but you will not start to actually glide like you would in lava or land. You just need to press space while swimming, sometimes multiple times. It is somewhat related to MCPE-54255, since doing that bug fixes the effects of this one.
As stated in the comments, dying while swimming in a 1 block gap will also have the same hitbox bug. The same effect will not happen if you die while swimming with water above you, so I think that there is either a certain timing between damage and switching hitboxes that activates it, or it is caused by being forced to switch hitboxes in a specific way by damage. It is not damage, since I was able to get this bug in creative. I think it might just be caused by switching hitboxes in a specific way, regardless of damage.

After further testing
There is a way to fix it while swimming, but it is not because you are swimming that it fixes itself. You can "glide" while swimming, which activates the same fix as if you would on land. It has the same effect that fixes your hitbox, but you will not start to actually glide like you would in lava or land. You just need to press space while swimming, sometimes multiple times. It is somewhat related to
MCPE-54255, since doing that bug fixes the effects of this one.As stated in the comments, dying while swimming in a 1 block gap will also have the same hitbox bug. The same effect will not happen if you die while swimming with water above you, so I think that there is either a certain timing between damage and switching hitboxes that activates it, or it is caused by being forced to switch hitboxes in a specific way by damage.

I was playing some survival, saw some iron underwater and decided to mine it. As I was mining it I drowned and when I Respawned suddenly my top half could clip into blocks. it only lasted a little bit as while I was swimming (sprint swimming) and heard some cave sounds it stopped.

when player is under the water and swim upwards if there is a block above it will get inside the block, if you try to move either back/forward/left/right and there is another block will phase and it will start getting damage. the only way to avoid this is going down from the first block.
same thing happens when you have a water source running, for example on a tunnel, if I try to jump to get out, even if it is 2 blocks high the player gets stuck for a second and receives damage, if I move to the left or right and there is another block I will get stuck and will receive damage.
also when it rains and you walk under 2 block high it will get stuck.
after sleeping helps or restarting the game stops this behavior, but I'm not sure what starts this behavior.
No this Do not happen with elytra, only when player is in contact with water even from rain.
this is way different from MCPE-109925
try go mine into a cave make a 2 block high tunnel put water and try to jump you will get stuck, that is the easy way to replicate this. No Elytra involved .

Also LateLag, it doesn't entirely accurate. MCPE-109925 says swimming cancels it. It does not.
MCPE-109925 does not say that swimming in itself cancels the glitch, but rather that trying to activate elytra while underwater sometimes cancels the glitch. Based on the information we have, I am resolving this report as a Duplicate of MCPE-109925.

I have experienced this bug but I think that incorrect hitboxes happens with another, similar bug. My reasoning is that I had other people in my world who had never even equipped an elytra, much less run into a wall with one, and were still experiencing the bug! They have also not died while swimming in a one block high space.
Anyone have any thoughts on what else could be causing these incorrect hitboxes? It would be much appreciated!
If a player dies while in a swimming state, this will also occur once they respawn.

@Jonathan Handel I don’t think it would be by an important amount, that one is relating to the player’s camera, where this one is about the hitbox for walking. They both do involve using the elytra to get a smaller hotbox, but no other similarities from there.
I have also been experiencing similar issues, and not purely from elytra flying or swimming. The frequency has been increased by elytra usage, but it did occur before and I cannot recall any times when I or others respawned after dying while in a swimming state. From this, I can only assume it has multiple causes as well as the elytra and swimming ones. I hope this helps
I experience this bug a lot and I got so used to it that i exploit it by going in 1 block high places (it is painfull though). I also came to the conclusion that if you reactivate your elytra or leave the chunk youre in when this happens the bug goes away most of the times. I belive bug is the reverce of
MCPE-31896, were the hitbox doesnt change when flying or swimming to the corect 1 block high hitbox. Instead it changes after you stop swimming and flying and under conditions like coliding with walls.I am able to replicate this issue in an offline creative world (while wearing elytra) as well as on a private Bedrock server. Issue is pervasive and effects all players on our server. Including when in our tunnels where flying isn't possible.
I'll find/create a bug report for this as well but tangentially we're noticing that when we go through our nether portals it's possible to come out inside the obsidian. Thankfully you usually only take a couple of hits of suffocation damage before the server figures out it screwed up and shifts you over a block but... it happens pretty regularly and might be related.

MCPE-28765turns out this issue occurs more frequently going from the overworld to nether. There is a workaround in this instance. However for nether to overworld, the issue I'm encountering, no known workaround exists currently.Note that I mention this issue because being able to phase through blocks occurs in conjunction with this issue on our server, some of the time. It's not 100% correlated but it happens often enough to be worth mentioning.

I make a similar issue, but without hit a wall.
When i try to fly but can´t get and return to ground, the player hitbox don't work correctly. Exactly like your videos. (I have a beacon with jump boost 1)
I have done a lot of research and found this has to do with your hit box changing the frame you move your hit box ( enderpearls) or/and being inside a block when your hit box returns to normal from gliding to riptiding. if you update your hit box in any way it is canceled. for example having the space bar pushed down while moving down updates, swimming updates, riptide, reloading, gliding, and pearling. suffocating usually doesn't happen but it probably a 50/50 thing. I would say ask for footage from victims of the glitch to identify more causes for this.
I have done further research on this issue, and I have found that almost any time that the player is pushed into a block(pistons, standing on shulkers, gravity blocks) will activate this bug. I have noticed that it somewhat halves your hitbox to about 1 meter tall, but the suffocation box is still at the correct place.
I can simply walk into the block, no elytra or anything needed.

It would be much easier to read the activity and related pane were there a separate "Duplicate" label rather than "RESOLVED". Yes, I know their status is duplicate, but I have to click through to see that, and seeing a ton of "RESOLVED" things up top gave me false hope.
I run a Bedrock server with people playing from iOS, Windows (10, mostly), PS4, and Switch and every one of us has experienced this bug.
I realize the upcoming release is important, but we're getting annoyed enough at suffocating in our own houses that I'm not sure we'll make it that long.
From our experience, this is an incredibly easy bug to reproduce. No, I don't know what causes it, but as it happens every time we play, if I had a debugger (maybe not even source!) I hope I could knock this out in a week, tops. It goes away after dropping and reconnecting, and it's some state related to the player, be that client or server side, but it feels like comparing the differences between those states and starting from there could get somewhere.
Man I didn't have this issue till the new update... This is ridiculous! Extremely annoying when I try playing in my survival realm. I'm in the end right now stuck with shulkers keep hitting me causing me to constantly being pinned inside the ceiling.
Same for me. After updating to 1.16.2310, I went End-busting and have been dealing with phasing through blocks constantly when hit by shulker bullets. Soooooo frustrating.
This issue has become much worse after the realms update. Especially in the end! I've died multiple times in the last few days because I'm hit by shulkers and levitate into blocks. So frustrating.
This bug has gotten worse since the recent update. Used too, if you took off the elytra and then put it back on the issue would resolve itself. Now when you take the elytra off, the bug acts the same whether the elytra is on or off.
This also seems to occur for me when using scaffolding. I’ve been having this issue even when my elytra isn’t equipped. After observation the only other thing I’m doing that’s unusual is building and climbing scaffolding in tight spaces

I can confirm that this is still a problem in 1.16.220, how to recreate:
you will find this also works with any blocks off of the ground including 2 block high ceilings that you jump into. Developers, please fix this, it has been in the game for the last three updates.
This happens without Elytra as well so this is not related to players glitching into crawl mode with Elytra.

I have maybe noticed this happen more often after 1.17.2 hotfix. I don't have to be using elytra. I can be walking normally and walk into a 1x1 space at my feet- at which point I begin taking suffocation damage. If the 1x1 space is at head height, my character collides with the block at my feet normally. Reloging doesn't always fix the issue. This is especially difficult while end raiding. After being hit with a shulker bullet, I can float into blocks above my head and begin suffocating. I can break the block above my head and not die, but it seems that the lower half of my hitbox will catch on a neighboring block and I hang there until the shulker effect to wear off.

Actually, it can happen anyway, anytime (but not always) after using elytra. And can be fixed by using Elytra again, or by swimming (sprinting in water). It can sometimes even fix itself.

I do have a duplicate post. It was about how that happened. For swimming underwater, spamming the jump button while having the Elytra equipped may end you up having your hitbox to 2 blocks high. I witnessed a different step. In creative, I fly up, then used the Elytra, dived, and I quickly unequip it. That'll randomly get the hitbox to 1 block height.

Daniel: please make a new report describing your issue in more detail, with steps to reproduce. If it is happening only on BDS hosted worlds, use the BDS project instead of MCPE.
